She is a historical woman in fashion. I suppose it’s hard to find a person from the fashion world who never heard about this iconic woman.

This year I got a book about her as my Christmas present. Thanks to books in this quick world you can immerse yourself in the world of past or future.

Talking about Diana you cannot describe her in one word. Exploring history of her life it’s hard to imagine that all of these events happened to one person. Very inspiring biography. Light, femininity, masculinity, elegance, intelligence, beauty, sense of humor and realism makes this woman a real hero of the era.

She is a classic representative of a romantic woman, and her self-irony conquers.

Her biting quotes are forever in fashion world.

Actually it’s hard to answer who was this iconic woman in one article but I will tell you.

She has always been an innovator in the fashion world, creating her own canons and rules.

Have you ever thought who made Vogue magazine the most influential fashion edition?

It was she! Legendary editor-in-chef of the American Vogue who took it to the main level.

The number and amount of her acquaintances and the events in her life fascinates with its interestingness and diversity. It seems that she knew the whole world of that times.

She found unique costume Institute in the Metropolitan Museum. Magazine and Museum works and develops in our times.

The life of this woman was full of unexpected twist of fate.

Her family immigrated to the United States New-York at the beginning of the First World War.

Her career in fashion begins in 1936 in Harpers Bazaar as a journalist. And in couple of years she became a chef editor of Harpers Bazaar.

In 1962 she joined Vogue as a junior editor.

And in short time in 1963 she became a chef editor of Vogue till 1971.

I will tell you a few of Diana’s quotes that captivate with their innovation and courage given the time.

“Before I went to work for Harper’s Bazaar in 1936, I had been leading a wonderful life in Europe. That meant traveling, seeing beautiful places, having marvelous summers, studying and reading a great deal of the time.” Said Diana.

-“Beware of wearing gray pearls with pink” something like that. And next month «pair apricot with orange». There are no strategies in such things. It’s more like a woman’s mindset. You just feel it right now. Keep it up. Do the routine. Let them think. Let them ask.»

-“She certainly had good taste, like everyone I knew in Europe. Of course, a person is born with good taste. You can only buy a touch of good taste. But Elsie Mendl had something very American, a sense of vulgarity. Vulgarity is a very important ingredient in life. I’m a big fan of vulgarity – if it’s alive. A dash of bad taste is like a pinch of paprika. No one can hurt a pinch of bad taste- It’s naturally healthy and organic. Guess we should mix it in a little more. There is no taste that I would not approve of.”

«But Lila shades… you should see Balenciaga’s lila. He was one of the greatest from all fashion designers. In that time people dressed up for a dinner not to change their clothes but really dressed up. And if woman came in Balenciaga dress rest of the woman in the room don’t exist anymore.”

Amount of people which she new is shocking…

Her relationships with colours were more than just to seeing them, it was about feeling charakter of each colour.

It was an introduction to the personality of this incredible woman and if you want to know more about her, I advise you to read the book called Diana Vreeland.
