Expectations from the next fashion show – are they justified? It depends… Take Jean Paul Gaultier for example. What can you expect from him? Guessing is useless, I would tell you. On a side note his personal exhibition opened in Paris recently and I was lucky to get there. To my complete surprise mannequin figures, demonstrating the clothes, were talking and singing. Models from almost all Gaultier’s collections and completely unique exhibits. One can see the smallest detail and evaluate the work done.
So let’s get back to his presentation at the haute couture fashion week in Paris. The anticipation of what’s going to happen was just rolling over. This time I tried to recall the name of the traditional tall hats worn at the south-west Brittany (“bigouden “) when passing by models showed similar structures (striped, laces of hair strands and satin stitch embroidered). Then came seamen headwear (peak-caps, seaman cap, kepis), but when arrived rectangles with patterns and I stopped searching for associations. The famous “Gaultier” stripe flashed all over the place: striped stockings, tights, shirts, overalls and entire suits. Anchor pendants talked more and more about the marine theme.
Pancake skirts and original symbolic or folklore patterns also caught me by surprise. Is it the form of Brittany crepes? Aztec or Mayan calendar? I did not find the answer. To summarize the collection consisted of: circular skirts, capris, classic trousers, jackets, coats, suits, mid-calf length dresses, sheer blouses with wide sleeves, leather jackets, trunk midi dresses and broad floor length dresses, wide jackboots, clog shoes. Accessories: pendants with anchors, smoke pipes, necklaces, large rings, earrings, bracelets, belts, elegant clutches, jug bag, high gloves.
I propose you to see the pictures from this collection and get aesthetic pleasure! And once again say “Bravo!” Predictions are useless, logical calculations are meaningless. Not thinking as an ordinary man – this is what makes a genius.
