Judging by the reigning on the current autumn-winter haute couture week floral mood, Parisian designers decided to proclaim the advent of eternal summer.
The tone was set by Donatella Versace who opened the couture week. In his turn, Georges Hobeika continued the vegetative theme, presenting a collection in the Lebanese designer’s favorite “contemporary princess’s wardrobe” spirit of spring-like soft colors. This time Hobeika dressed his heroine for the traditional English “five o’clock tea” in a garden. Inlays and embroidery in the form of inflorescences and fluttering butterflies don’t make heavy silhouettes of the garments, competing with each other in grace and elegance. The secret may lie in the skillful combination of precious fabrics and cut, adjusted with mathematical precision.
One of the most memorable looks from the new collection, in my opinion, is the final wedding gown. Innocence, emitted by a perfectly chosen for this role girl, is emphasized by an original headwear and the farthingale skirt, which were popular in the era of Marie Antoinette, played with a modern twist.
Haute couture is timeless and sets the fashion seasons itself. The new collection of Georges Hobeika is yet another confirmation of this.
