He was nicknamed an “enfant terrible” of UK fashion and a genius at the same time. For Dior, he was a “breath of fresh air.” And it was very difficult to imagine Dior without Galliano, but a few years ago he was found guilty of anti-Semitic behavior, and he retired from “the world of fashion.” Media was “throwing stones” at him and it seemed that he would not return. But there’s always a “but”! John Galliano is back! The news thrilled literally everyone. Galliano is the new creative director of the already avant-garde Maison Martin Margiela brand!

Many expected to see him in Paris, including me, but alas the show didn’t appear in the haute couture fashion week calendar. Waiting overwhelmed mind. Here and there appeared articles comparing his most brilliant collections to those of Maison Martin Margiela. Many were looking for similarities. An expectation or even a hope of something special, an explosion, a freak show perhaps. What will it be?

The collection was presented in London. Without hype and only for chosen. The hall resembled a sterile room where one must wear a white smock so as not to disrupt or damage the newfangled creative symbiosis.

The designer approached very carefully this well-known brand. He preserved asymmetrical cuts and miraculous masks decorated with jewels, beads and rhinestones. Same didn’t apply shoes, I must say. High platforms, irregularity and the combination of colors are more relevant to “Galliano” than MMM.

Daring looks, complex cut and unleashed imagination gave their fruits. Collection was accepted favorably by the public and critics. Bravo Maestro! Galliano has returned!
