“Sparkling organza gives birth to crystal buds, captured by silk muslin…” – from the first lines the press release, forestalling the fall-winter haute couture show of Georges Hobeika, tunes the audience to poesy and sets up a romantic mood. Drawing a portrait of a graceful and fantastic ingénue, the designer takes his heroine to the Giverny garden of Claude Monet with its famous water lilies pond, celebrated so many times by the famous impressionist on his canvases.
But how far Hobeika is from, alas, becoming universally fashionable image of a strong and authoritative woman-warrior. She is flawlessly feminine. Her only weapon is a refined elegance; her outfits appear to be woven from flower petals. The finest gossamer lace embraces her slender figure; rhinestones veins run down the wide hem of the skirt to her feet.
In a gentle color palette dominate bluish, milky and burgundy shades, while several poppy-red dresses bring the freshness without disturbing the overall harmony. That is exactly the harmony, borrowed by the designer from nature, runs as Ariadne’s thread through all the looks of the collection.
