With the departure of John Galliano from the Dior fashion house, of course the question arose who will replace him. Some people are indispensable, but no one is irreplaceable. The search for a replacement was a very complex process causing a lot of stir in fashion business and media, but for a moment the choice fell on Bill Gaytten – the former “right hand” of Galliano. A clever decision if you want to minimize the risk and avoid unpleasant surprises. And so it happened. One gets the impression that Bill and his creative team do not take the responsibility to create an entirely new collection radically different from Dior’s legacy. But of course the “hand” of the new master is felt.
Midi dresses are perfect and sensual. Floral embroidery, light fabrics selection and dresses themselves breathe with the spring. A belt precisely highlights the waistline and a puffy midi skirt feels so 70s. Pencil skirts and dresses, sheer pleated skirts, jackets, long gloves … Layering, transparency, pleating, ribbons and feathers – all so perfect … A very beautiful collection and in the Dior’s style and feel! But still something is missing: a new breath, look, boldness. But it’s not easy to outshine Galliano and do something better than him. I very much hope that “better” is not needed and the next collection will simply say for itself. And there will be no doubt that Bill Gaytten is not just the “right hand” of incomparable Galliano but the maestro and the soul of the house Dior.
