Apparently, Elie Saab does enjoy playing with colour gradations: in his haute couture autumn collection designer followed the change of the day and night in a city, which was reflected in a gradual change of colours of the dresses throughout the show. The spring prèt-à-porter collection bears a resounding name of “colour shock” and is built on a similar principle: the show was opened by a serie of milky white looks, first evolving towards sunny-yellow, then pale peach; rich malachite ensembles anticipated a lapis-lazurite finale. As usual, Elie Saab prefers not to mix the colours – all the looks are monotone.

The prèt-à-porter line of the fashion house got full momentum only quite recently. Perhaps this is why “day looks” are not numerous and the basis of the collection is still formed by classic evening gowns – an absolute fad of the Lebanese designer that made ​​him famous at the most prestigious film festivals around the world.

However even evening dresses, seemingly created exclusively for dinner parties, are still more “modest” in comparison with their more luxurious counterparts from the haute couture line, literally drowning in miles of muslin and tulle. More form-fitting and single-layered prèt-à-porter dresses seduce with the height of lateral slits, with the depth of sequin neckline that is countered with open back, flying cape sleeves and, of course, lace inserts, migrated also into some “day” looks.

In his new summer collection, Elie Saab continues to sing the praises to femininity of her heroine, created to drive mad and conquer.
