The new winter collection of Elie Saab Haute couture can be almost surely called as one of the airiest ever built by Lebanese designer. Muslin, tulle and lace create an image of a beautiful vision from the world of dreams. Dreams of a big city, over which the dawn spreads, reflected in the mirrored facades of skyscrapers. The gradual transition from pure white to pink, the color of the morning dew, and then maroon and dark blue colour, symbolizes the change from day to night outside of the windows.
The fragility of the image is highlighted by transparency of fabrics, veiling the curves of the body; open back; butterfly sleeves, embroidered with small fur patches – resembling snowflakes tangled in tree branches of the winter Central Park. The paroxysm of tenderness is embodied in the pale pink mini-dress, fashioned from the lightest Chantilly laces, embroidered with flowers and sequins, which, thanks to the light designer’s hand, do not leaden the image.
Autocratic romanticism of an urban beauty – strong but feminine, is manifested in long evening gowns, entirely embroidered with sequins, with a deep neckline or a bustier bodice with high waist.
If the Spring Haute couture collection may have been accused of certain heaviness, then the ephemeral nature of the winter one completely exonerates the designer as the greatest master of creations on a fringe. A fringe of a dream and reality.
